All coffees from Burundi are grown organically by default, as the farmers are not investing in fertilisers. The farmers and producers receive way above fair trade prices.

With volcanic soils and a rainfall of 1300 mm per yearthe growing conditions are good. The Mbrizi Washing Station is located at almost 1600 MASL and local small holder farmers from surrounding hills in Kayanza region are encouraged to sell their ripest cherry to this mill at a premium to help create this unique honey coffee.

Natural Honey Process- Once the coffee bean is separated from its cherry, it’s left covered in a mucilage layer that, when dried, will continue to reabsorb moisture from the air and become sticky.
