Thailand Doi Chaang Grade A


Organic, beyond fair-trade coffee from the Doi Chaang community near Chiang Rai in the Golden Triangle. Doi Chaang initially prospered from the illegal opium trade until Majesty King Bhumibol launched an initiative to introduce sustainable crops to the hill tribes. In 1969 the village started cultivating Arabica coffee and with it, brought an end to deforestation and the ability to grow through winter months. Initially the coffee quality was variable, but thanks to the ingenuity and holistic endeavour of a traveller called Wicha Promyong, agronomy and quality improved and Doi Chaang evolved into an internationally famous brand for quality coffee. Wicha died in 2014, but such was the benefit to the entire community that the brand now features his image in it's logo.

In the cup - very clean, moderate acidity, with a medium body and smooth silky mouth feel. Notes of ripe citrus, flowers and lightly roasted nut.

Grown at 1200-1600m above sea in the mountains of Chiang Rai in Thailand’s Golden  Triangle.

This coffee cherries are hand-picked, fully washed, sun dried and hand sorted.
